Welcome
to the website for adults with Attention Deficit Disorder. There
are many adults in Australia who suffer from ADD and like myself
are not able to share thoughts and feelings with people with ADD
and do not know where to turn to for support. I started this website
hoping that people will be able to share feelings and support each
other.
My
name is Simon and I am 29 years of age. I was first diagnosed with
ADD when I was 8 years old and have had learning difficulties all
my life. I didn't talk much until I was three. I have seen many
specialists and speech therapists over the years. I have had remedial
classes for several years and although my reading and writing has
improved, I still have difficulty , especially with writing and
spelling.
I have
been seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis for several years.
Last year several incidents happened in my life that have left me
extremely depressed and during the latter part of last year I tried
to take my own life. One of the incidents that occurred was a very
close friend of mine whom I have regular contact and is also low
after the death of her father last year. She did not contact me
for several weeks after leaving our house in the middle of the night
and that nearly killed me. My mother Yvonne and brother Andrew have
been very supportive all my life and I thank them from the bottom
of my heart for always being there for me.
I
am on the following medication:
- Ritalin
10mg - 4 times a day to help with my concentration
- Cipramil
20mg - 4 times a day for depression
- Xanax
2mg 4 times a day for anxiety and panic disorders
- Norminson
- 10mg 2 tablets to help me get to sleep.
I am
training as a Funeral Director, also working at weekends at the
local vets and also run my own pet care service
I would
like to write a book about my life and about Attention Deficit Disorder
and depression in adults and how it affects people.
If
anyone has any information or contacts that I may be able to include
in the book, could you please email me at
